Fully custom Shopify themes, written in Liquid, for brands that have outgrown templates.

Most Shopify builds begin with a theme someone else designed, and most storefronts end up feeling like it. We keep a boilerplate of our own, a fully custom Liquid theme refined for complex catalogues, editorial commerce and colour models that vary product by product. It is a starting point, not a product, and what we design on top of it is unique to each brand.

Nothing off the shelf

This is not a template with new colours. Every section, block and snippet is written by us, so the markup, the styling and the JavaScript all answer to your design.

Your team keeps the keys

Code lives in Git, content lives in the Shopify admin, and the two never fight. Merchandisers rearrange sections and blocks in the theme editor without waiting for a developer.

A real data model

Eleven metafield keys and two metaobjects give the catalogue structure: colour relationships, breadcrumb hierarchies, per-variant galleries, size charts and store availability, rendered by the theme itself rather than by a stack of apps.

The starting point

Custom Shopify theme development gets expensive when every build starts from an empty folder, so we built a foundation that covers the whole storefront, from product card to cart drawer. The design work goes to what is distinct about your brand.

  • 34 sections, 65 theme blocks and 69 snippets to compose from
  • Cart drawer and product card assembled from blocks
  • Predictive search, collection filters, AJAX pagination
  • Wishlist, size guides and store availability
  • Structured data: Organization, WebSite, per-variant product offers, breadcrumbs
  • English and Swedish localisation from day one
  • Self-hosted fonts, no third-party CDNs
  • Per-component code splitting, 27 components load on demand
  • Slots for reviews, subscriptions and loyalty apps

One colour model, no setting

Fashion catalogues disagree about colour. Some brands run every colour as its own product, others as an option on one. The theme detects which model each product uses and renders swatches, siblings and galleries accordingly, with no setting to get wrong.

Apps where they belong

Reviews, subscriptions and loyalty are app territory, so the theme gives them slots on the product page, the header, the cart and the product card. Everything else it renders itself.

Performance from architecture

The theme is built to target 90+ Lighthouse scores through structure. One image per page loads at high priority, layout comes from tokens so nothing shifts while media arrives, and JavaScript is split per component so a page only loads what it uses.

What it does for your store

Fast pages protect conversion, structured data helps you get found, and a storefront your team can edit ships campaigns the day they are ready. Those are the returns a custom theme is built to deliver, and the foundation keeps the cost closer to a template than to a full custom storefront. If your store eventually outgrows a theme, we build headless Shopify too, and we have written about when that switch makes sense.

Asked before every build

Why a custom theme instead of a template?

A purchased template is designed for every store, which is another way of saying no store in particular, and customising one means working against its assumptions. For a simple catalogue that trade can be fine. Our themes are written from scratch, so everything in them is a decision made on purpose for your brand.

Is a custom Shopify theme worth it?

It depends on how far your brand and catalogue sit from what templates assume. Complex colour logic, several languages or a strong visual identity all push the answer toward yes, because the cost of working around a template compounds. When a stock theme genuinely fits, we recommend the stock theme.

What does custom Shopify theme development cost?

A custom theme costs more than a purchased theme and less than a headless build, with the spread set by design scope and how much structure your catalogue needs. Because we start from a working foundation, the budget goes to the parts only your brand needs. We estimate after a conversation, because any number before that would be a guess.

Can our team edit the storefront without developers?

Yes, the theme is built around that assumption. Everything editorial is a section or a block in the Shopify theme editor, content lives in the admin, and deploys respect what your team publishes.

Should we build a custom theme or go headless?

Liquid keeps Shopify's native rendering, checkout and theme editor, which is the practical choice for most brands. Headless earns its complexity when content, markets or integrations outgrow what a theme can express. We build both, and the right call usually comes down to the catalogue.

How long does a custom theme build take?

The foundation shortens it considerably, because the storefront already works before design begins. What remains is the design itself, the catalogue structure and whatever is particular to your brand, so the timeline follows scope. One conversation about your catalogue is usually enough for a confident estimate.
